Atlanta Community Food Bank’s 41st annual Hunger Walk Run set for March 9

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Community Food Bank is inviting the public to participate in its 41st annual Hunger Walk Run on March 9. The event, which will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at The Home Depot Backyard, aims to raise awareness and funds to combat food insecurity across metro Atlanta and North Georgia.

The Food Bank is facing the highest demand for food assistance since the pandemic, making this year’s event more critical than ever. Participants can join in person or virtually to support the cause.

Kyle Waide, President and CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, emphasized the urgency of the event, saying, “Food insecurity is all around us, and the need is greater than ever.” Waide added that every walker helps provide 90 meals and every runner provides 120 meals for those in need.

Over the past 40 years, the Hunger Walk Run has raised more than $15.5 million, which has funded over 46 million meals for families, seniors, children and others facing hunger in the region.

Online registration is open until Friday, March 7 at noon, with fees of $30 for walkers and $40 for runners. Walk-up registration will be available at the event for a higher rate.

The event benefits the Atlanta Community Food Bank and other local nonprofit hunger relief organizations, supporting food pantries, shelters, senior centers and childcare centers across the region. Participants can select a benefiting partner to support with their registration.

In addition to individual participants, the event has received support from major sponsors, including Georgia Power, the Inspire Foundation, The Coca-Cola Company and The Home Depot Backyard.

The event is open to people of all ages and abilities. It will feature a 5K walk and fun run, along with music, food vendors and other activities. Participants can also track event updates via the Hunger Walk Run app, available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
